Membership of the association may be of 5 categories:
  • Life members
  • General Members
  • Associate Members
  • Overseas Members
  • Distinguished or Honorable Members
The Bangladeshi cardiac, cardiovascular, thoracic and vascular surgeons working in Bangladesh may become the Life or General members if registered with Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and fulfill obtaining one of the following criteria:
  1. Master of Surgery (MS) in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery under University of Dhaka or BSMMU.
  2. Master of Surgery (MS) in Thoracic Surgery under University of Dhaka or BSMMU.
  3. FCPS Cardiovascular Surgery or Thoracic Surgery of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) or FRCS in cardiovascular and thoracic Surgery (London, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Ireland) or equivalent,
  4. FCPS general surgery of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), FRCS in General Surgery (London, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Ireland) or equivalent only upon completion of at least continuous 4 years fulltime, dedicated training in cardiac, cardiovascular, thoracic or vascular surgery after obtaining FCPS and being approved by the technical committee of the association.
  5. PhD or equivalent degree in cardiac, cardiovascular, thoracic or vascular surgery after completion of at least continuous 3 years fulltime, dedicated training in cardiac, cardiovascular, thoracic or vascular surgery after obtaining the degree and being approved by the technical committee of the association.
  6. Provided further that in case of difference of opinion concerning membership of any surgeon under clause 3.4 or 3.5, the decision of the technical committee of the association will be final.
  7. Cardiologists, Cardiac anesthetists, Intensivists, Respiratory physicians, Pulmonologists, Physicians, Certified Perfusionists, MS students or Surgeons who do not qualify in accordance with article 3.1 to 3.5, may be admitted as Associate Member(s) of the association.
  8. Associate member(s) will not have the rights of life or general members, will not be part of general assembly, will not vote or be a candidate for Executive Committee and will have only limited participation in association activities as decided by the general assembly.
  9. Foreign nationals who fulfill the criteria of membership in accordance with article 3.1 to 3.5 may be admitted as Overseas Member(s) of the association. Overseas Member(s) will not vote or be a candidate for Executive Committee and will have limited participation in association activities as decided by the general assembly.
  10. The association may elect any person as Honorable or Distinguished member (s) of the association.
  11. Associate, Overseas and Honorarable member(s) will not have the right to vote or hold any office of the Executive Committee of the association or to participate at the General Meeeting(s).
